giusy colì biographyGIUSY COLÌ was born in 1980 in the south of Italy (Galatina – Lecce) on July 23. Since she was a child she approached music listening to international artists and playing guitar. Her path started in 1994 when she was 14, as singer in a local band. Intrigued by art and music, she started experimenting various genres, from pop, blues, soul to funk and Rhythm & Blues.

In 1996 with some friends she founded the band “Controsenso”, with which she sang until 2000 in many clubs and pubs of the region Puglia and thanks to which she strenghtened her vocation for the black music.

In 2001 she started collaborating with different bands, around Italy and Europe, such as the Fernando Fattizzo Band and the“Dr Blues & Soulbrothers” Big Band, which accompanies the trumpeter Guido Pistocchi.

In 2003 she entered the “Orchestra di Terra d’Otranto” directed by maestro Antonio Palazzo for the italian Rai television programs “Premio Barocco” in Gallipoli and Oscar Tv-Premio Regia televisiva at the Teatro Ariston of Sanremo, in occasion of which she collaborated with many artists as Renzo Arbore, Lucio Dalla, Gianna Nannini, Fiorella Mannoia, Polo Belli, Riccardo Cocciante, Alexia, Antonella Ruggiero, Irene Grandi, I Pooh, Enrico Ruggeri, Noa, Edoardo Bennato, Massimo Ranieri, Anna Tatangelo, Gigi D’Alessio, Alessandra Amoroso and Antonio Maggio.

Simultaneously in 2003 she founded the “Giusy Colì Quintet” band and in occasion of the Lecce Art-Festival in 2004 she received the critic awards by Gegè Telesforo for the Jazz and blues section, tramsitted by the national channel RAI.

In 2005 she attended the Academy of music and show “Anteprima” in Lecce studying modern style singing with Nando Mancarella.
In the same year she started the collaboration with Al Bano Carrisi, recording back-vocals in all his discographic productions until 2013 with the “Clan degli Artisti” (Nardò) of Tommaso and Alex Zuccaro, and participating in some live and television programs.

In 2010 she duetted with Al Bano in the album “The Great Italian Songbook” (Universal Music Group, Germania), in 2011 in the album Duo Fones of Al Bano with the greek artist Giannis Ploutarxos, and in 2012 in the album “Al Bano Canta Italia” (Blanco y Negro Music, Spagna).

In 2007 she recorded as back-vocalist in the double album “Canto perché non so nuotare” by Massimo Ranieri and in the same year she participated at the television program “I fuoriclasse” directed by Carlo Conti and transmitted on Rai.

In 2008 she took part at the Master class in Jazz Singing Jazz directed by Sheila Jordan at the Locomotive Jazz Festival in Sogliano Cavour (Lecce), organized and directed by Raffaele Casarano and Alessandro Monteduro.
On the autumn she participates at the selections for the second edition of the talent show X-Factor with the vocal quartet Piurà arranged by the vocal coach Nando Mancarella, arriving at the final phase of the castings.
Come after the collaboration with Gegè Telesforo and the Salento Groove Orchestra directed by Simone Borgia, with Ron and the Orchestra of Magna Grecia and the Orchestra of Valle d’Itria both directed by maestro Antonio Palazzo.

Since 2008 till now she has been collaborating with Gabin in occasion of concerts in Europe.

In 2010 her first pop titled “Spazio” was realesed by an independent label. She wrote lyrics while Alex Zuccaro is author of music and arrangements. In 2010 this song was presented at the 60° Festival of the Italian Song “Sanremo” for the New Generation category (recorded by famous italian pop musicians Maurizio Dei Lazzaretti, Andrea Rosatelli, Adriano Martino and Alex Zuccaro).

In occasion of the Mia Martini Award 2010 – A voice for Europe (Bagnara Calabra- RC- Italy) she was awarded with the special prize A.F.I (the Italian Association of Phonographic Producers) with her song “Fotogrammi” (music by alex Zuccaro) and in 2011 she sang as guest star in Bruxelles, at the 19° International Festival of the Italian Song – Italians in the world.

In the 1st edition of the Umbria Pop Music Festival in 2011 in Terni (Italy), Giusy received the special note by critics for the original song “Sola” (by Piefrancesco Agostini).

In the final part of the national Prize for Authors “Premio Poggio Bustone 2011”, she received the prize for best cover with the song “Vento nel vento” arranged by A. Zuccaro.

In 2012 Giusy performed in an italian televison program on the national channel RAI 2.

In 2013 she attended a vocal improvisation workshop directed by Bob Stoloff.
In 2013 she was the international guest in Colombia at the Unab university of Bucaramanga, where she holded a seminar in modern singing at the faculty of music of Unab. In Colombia, she performed in a concert in occasion of the 10th National Book Exhibition “Ulibro” and in some clubs and cultural events.

On May 2014 she performed in Volgograd, Russia, with her piano player friend Paco Carrieri.

At the moment she is producing her original cd, she performs as singer and she teaches Modern singing and PMC Vocals Yamaha at the Yamaha Music School in Lecce.
